Summit engine failure

Post by Bulnorth » Wed Aug 24, 2016 8:20 pm

Took the engine apart and confirmed yesterday afternoon that I spun #2 and #3 big end bearings. I may get a crank in time but selecting the correct bearing shells will be a problem until it arrives. At this point it is not looking good. Upgrading to another engine will be impossible with all the structural, piping and electronic changes needed. Just to cap it off I developed an abscess under a molar and am now on antibiotics waiting for a root canal! We were going well until the engine died. Watching sidecars is fun but nothing like being on one.

Crankshaft and rods are still in transit so Calabogie is out. Hoping that they will arrive on Tuesday so I can get the bearings measured and ordered with the aim of making the last round. While the engine is out I have repaired two cracked engine mounts so that is one winter job done!

Wasn't one of those mounts slightly beyond "cracked"?
