Logged a 92.0086 mph average on their first practice lap.
Waiting to see if they attempt another lap today.

They are back out for a second lap and have passed through the first sector (ending a Glen Helen).

They seem to have had an issue between Ramsey and the Bungalow (on the way up to the top of the mountain section). They have dropped 20mph (they likely stopped for some reason) but are now progressing around.

Safely finished lap 2 with an average speed of 70.48mph
Probably too late to attempt a 3rd lap.
However they are making good progress towards qualifying with 3 of their required 4 laps completed (they can count the new comers lap from Saturday).
I'm just looking up the new rules on the required qualifying speed.

Qualifying speed is 117.5% of the third fastest qualifier. So far that is 117.5% of 108.918mph or about 92.696mph. But that will likely rise to about 95-98mph by the end of qualifying (as the top teams go faster).
All the speeds I mentioned are average speeds for a lap.
So they are definitely in the hunt to qualify.

SWEET! and thanks for the commentary. Since you've been there you know how to interpret what's going on. I appreciate it!

So I'm going out on a limb here to reply to this even though math is not my strong suit. 117.5% of 108.918 is not 92.696 - its actually 127.97 since if you have more than 100% of something its higher that what you started with. Unless they changed the rules on me from last year I was always under the impression that it was 90% of the third fastest qualifying time. Ben/Tom Birchall are currently third with a time of 108.98 mph. So if I'm not mistaken that would mean the current cutoff is 98.08mph. So Pete and Jeff need to quicken their pace as that will most likely increase. If i'm wrong then 1000 apologies

Yes Fabio, you are mistaken. Cut off is 117.5 % of the 3rd fastest qualifiers lap time. Average mph is just a much more interesting and relatable measure.

time for my 1000 apologies as I looked it up and its 117.5% on the official rules.

However I'm not sure why they would be dividing the 3rd time by a percentage and not multiplying by a smaller percentage. Oh well

Based on the current speeds and this 117.5% mumbo jumbo the qualifying speed for race is 95.7mph so right now they qualify for the first race!!!!

Unofficial results aren't posted but according to iomtt twitter the top 3 had speeds of 113mph and according to their facebook page they did a 96.8 on first lap. So they are keeping up with the pace and are in a qualifying position for the race.

Well the boys just finished a 98mph lap! That should qualify them. The top 3 teams are all running 113mph today but their 98mph should be good as long as the 3rd fastest team stays under 115.25 mph. Given that the outright sidecar lap record is 116.785mph, I think their 98mph should hold up! Congrats guys!
